Power outage
Power is provided by the federal public utility (CFE) overhead power lines using transformers on 3 different poles on the west perimeter of the condominium property, and connected by underground cables from there.
What Administration will do
- to see the outage policy click here
What you should do
- with your CFE bill in hand, use your phone to call 071
- when you get the recording, { dial 0 , then pause }
- if needed, ask the CFE call centre person for someone who speaks English
say: mi EspaƱol es muy poquito. necessito hablar ingles
there will be a long pause before an English-speaking person comes on the line - explain the problem and give him/her your casa telephone number
you will be given the problem ticket number and the estimated response time.
write this number down for your followup call
do not assume other people have called; the more people call, the higher the problem goes on their repair urgency list
- Your neighbours without cellphones may not have the ability to see administration emails during a power outage. Please assist them by updating them in person during the outage.
- Open the glass portion of your front door. Why? Your doorbell will not work and someone pounding on the metal mesh produces a soft sound that you may not hear inside. Neighbours with valuable information about the outage need to be able contact Residents who are at home.
- The water supply will be provided by backup generator during power outages. Please limit your water use to critical situations (e.g. limited flushing) so that the generator does not run out of fuel.
- reset the timer for your sprinkler system, for lights, or for other timed items. If you have a water softener, make sure to reset the REGEN timer.
To prepare your household
- print this page and keep it handy
- keep a copy of your CFE bill handy

- make sure your cellphone is charged - landline phones may not work, depending on the scope of the outage
- make sure your landline has a phone with a wire connection (cordless phones will not work) - lights will not work and candles and lighters are dangerous
- keep battery-operated lanterns, flashlights, and extra batteries in your home. - there will be a temporary water outage before the backup generator can be started up
- maintain a stock of large bottles of water - eleven-litre bottles are the largest size most people can lift (about 23 pounds)
- use the water to refill toilet tanks after flushing
- use the water to drink - DO NOT drink the tap water until power is restored and you have had the water running for several minutes to allow the purification to catch up
